In her capacity as a visual artist, Tis Ernst works from her fascination with ‘the human being in movement’. What started off with the documentation of colourful impressions of circus performers, has since evolved into three-dimensional work in which the movements of Tis’s own life are becoming more and more visible.
For years, Tis worked together with her husband, designer Raimond Puts (1937-2012), who gained recognition through the Raimond lamps he developed; a series of geodesic spheres consisting of light metal strips and energy-conscious LED lights, which have emerged from decades of research into the perfect fusion of beauty and functionality.
Their collaboration was a voyage through life, a path leading past physics and mathematics, technical proficiency and philosophy, which the artist has walked alone since 2012.
With the TisR light pieces, of which a limited edition is released in 2021, Tis pays tribute to her husband and their collaboration. At the same time, this work marks a new beginning in her life.
Tis Ernst; “Continuing the work with the building blocks Raimond developed, has moved me literally and figuratively since his passing. On a path of emptiness and gratitude, joy and sadness, I found the freedom to let go and the space to step into my own light”.
With ‘movement’ remaining one of the most important recurring themes in her work, Tis is moving forward. She wishes to go further, with Raimonds’ intellectual heritage, and the visual studies and ideas they developed together, but also with new shapes and materials, to shed her very own light on her artistry and her life.
